Happy Friday!  I love a short week.  You may have seen this outfit on my Instagram a few weeks ago when I wore it to work (here), and I finally got around to putting it up on the blog.

I'm keeping it short today as I'm heading up to Connecticut for my 10 year college reunion this afternoon.  It seems like I was just at my 5 year!  Where does the time go?  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

What I Want... Nordstrom Sale

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9

I hope you are enjoying the shortened week!  The Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale started earlier this week.  As you may know, I love a bargain and hate to pay full price for anything.  This sale is always great to pick up a few classic, wear now pieces that have been on my list.  I'm still on the fence as I'm trying to be good after my trip to Asia, but I might have to cave for this Rag & Bone skirt in my favorite black and white combo or this Trouve dress, which is a perfect transition piece from work to after work drinks.  I know none of us want to think about winter, but there were also a few Burberry coats on sale, which are always a great investment.

There are also a couple of other sales going on:

The Net-a-Porter sale started earlier this week.  While this is normally out of my price range, I couldn't resist looking and identifying the pieces that I might want if they make it to a second cut.  I mainly splurge on shoes, so I have my eyes on this pair, this pair, and this pair.  I know they probably won't make it for further markdowns, but a girl can dream can't she? :)

The Rebecca Minkoff sale is also still going on.  There are some great Mini MACs (I love mine, seen here), but my favorite piece is this bag.  I've been resisting for a while, but now that it is on sale, I might have to cave!

What's on your sale list?

Have a great day!

Happy Friday!  I hope your week is going well!  It's my second to last day in Vietnam as we are heading back to Hong Kong for a night tomorrow before flying back to the US.  I don't think anyone is ever ready to leave vacation, but I'm definitely not ready to go home.  I feel like we have barely scratched the surface of Vietnam as there are so many other places in country to visit (Saigon, Hue, etc).  One week is definitely not enough to fully experience this country.  This was my first time in Southeast Asia and I can't wait to come back!

I wore this dress to dinner in Hanoi earlier in the week with my friend.  I rarely wear orange, but this dress caught my eye at my favorite boutique.  Dresses are so easy for summer and I can never resist interesting detailing so this dress obviously had me at hello!  Thankfully it is also forgiving as we ate a little too much at dinner... The food here has been amazing and I've discovered several new favorite dishes (hello pho and green papaya salad!).

Vietnam has taken me out of my comfort zone of Europe and the Caribbean, but it has been a very interesting and amazing trip.

Have a great weekend!

Halong Bay

And I have to include a picture of my friend and awesome travel partner, Maame who has been nice enough to put up with my photo requests!

Shirt: Borrowed from my Dad
Jean shorts: J. Crew
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban (borrowed from a friend)

I hope everyone's week is going well!  Time here in Vietnam is flying by! I can't believe my vacation is more than halfway over.  Today we traveled 3.5 hours outside of Hanoi to visit a UNESCO heritage site, Halong Bay.  While our tour guide was convinced that a trip to Vietnam without a trip to Halong Bay didn't count as a trip to Vietnam, I'm not sure I would go quite that far.  It was definitely worth the trip though and was a welcome change of space from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.

Given how hot it is here (and after sweating through my outfit from Monday), I opted for an oversize linen shirt (thanks Dad!) which was very breathable and doubles as a great bathing suit cover-up (even though I misread the itinerary and we didn't have a chance to swim...)

Halong (or "Descending Dragon") Bay is a huge bay, with almost 2000 limestone islands that have formed over the past 500M years.  The islands all have very interesting names, including Elephant, Monkey, and Fighting Rooster.  Though most of the lake is uninhabited, there is a small group of people that live in several fishing villages floating on the lake.

We arrived at the hotel after a long drive and had a delicious Vietnamese lunch on the boat.  After lunch, we kayaked around the bay and then hiked through a cave to admire the stalagmite and stalactite.  Most people spend 2 or 3 days at Halong Bay, but we only had a day as we are trying to make the most of our trip.  I've included some pictures below.

First Day in Vietnam

Top: Asos
Skirt: Maje, Old
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Purse: Marc Jacobs
Necklace: Bauble Bar
Earrings: C. Wonder, old

Greetings from Vietnam!  We arrived here late last night after a world-wind weekend in Hong Kong for my friend's wedding.  Hong Kong was amazing and my friend's wedding was beautiful.  It was my first Indian wedding.  I wore a sari for the first time, which I will share later this week or next week.

We quickly took these pictures at our hotel this morning, before getting ready to head out and explore Hanoi, and try some delicious Vietnamese food.  It is very hot and humid here so this hat is doubling as hair camouflage :).

If you guys have any suggestions of places to go in Hanoi, please let me know.

Have a great day!

Greetings from Hong Kong!  I finally made it after 24 hours of travel.  I've been here before, but I always forget how exotic it is with its combination of urban skyscrapers and lush jungle.  We got off to an early start today for my friend's wedding ceremony.  It was my first Indian wedding ceremony and it was absolutely beautiful.  Weddings are one of my favorite things as it is always great to see your friends so happy as they walk down the aisle (or in this case sit under the canopy) to their future husband/wife.  I didn't understand a lot of what the priest said, but another friend did a great job of explaining the significance of each part of the ceremony.  Assuming my jet lag doesn't catch up with me (and the rain holds off), I'm off for a boat ride around the Hong Kong Harbor to celebrate my friend's marriage.

I shot this outfit before I left and it combines two of my current favorite, chambray and stripes. Okay, maybe 3 favorites if we add Bauble Bar in.  I can't claim total credit for this one though as I saw a similar outfit in a picture Target and knew I had all the pieces at home to recreate it.  I love it when that happens as I'm trying to avoid more $50 tubes of mascara!

Have a great weekend!

Travel Style

Jacket: Loft, old
Top: Loft
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Scarf: old
Longchamp Bags: (here, here)
Luggage: old

I'm so excited!  As you read this I'm on my way to the airport to Hong Kong for my friend's wedding and then onto a week in Vietnam.  I've never been to Vietnam before so I'm excited an new country.  One of my goals is to fill up my passport before it expires, so this trip definitely helps with that and I get the amazing bonus of visiting two culturally-rich destinations with great food!

As a former consultant who was on the road four days a week every week for 2 years, I've got my in-flight essentials down, especially for a 20+ hour flight.  No matter how long the flight, I can't travel in tight pants, so my new boyfriend jeans (that I wear all the time!) are perfect.  Layering is also key as I'm always freezing, but want the ability to take off a layer if I got hot (almost never happens...).  Finally, my scarf can double as a blanket (did I mention I get cold?) so I don't have to use one of the airplane blankets.

My in-flight essentials include socks for my cold feet, my neck pillow and eye mask so I can fall asleep, my iPad for magazines, books, and podcasts, lots of water (and some lotion) to battle dehydration, and healthy snacks to supplement the airplane food.

What are you travel essentials?

I will try to update from the road and share parts of my trip with you guys!

My favorite look.  How beautiful is this?

Sorry, today's post is very photo-heavy.  I'm sorry for the quality of some of the pictures as I had to use my iPhone after I brought the wrong lens for my camera.  I'm still wanted to share though, since it was such a great event!

One of the things I wanted to do after starting this blog was get more involved the local Atlanta fashion scene.  Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Aveda Art Fusion Fashion Show (you may have seen it on my Instagram).  The first half of the show was very Project Runway-esque!  It was a competition where 12 students used natural materials to create outfits.  The designer of the best outfit won a scholarship to the Aveda Institute.  I've featured my favorite looks above.  A skirt made out of newspaper, shoes decorated with soda can openers, and flowers on dresses made of tissue paper were just a few of the great designs.  As someone with little to no artistic ability, I don't know how they came up with these ideas or executed them, but I was so impressed by the creativity  of the students!

The second half of the show featured two Atlanta designers.  My favorite dress of the night was from Francesca Nelo.  A beautiful red dress with a deep v-neck (above), it was glamorous and strong (but I need a few more hours in the gym before I could even consider wearing it!).  I met the Francesca after the show, and she was so sweet (and wearing another one of her beautiful designs)!  All in all, it was a great event and I can't wait for next year's event!

How to Transition from Day to Night

Happy Friday! Keeping it short today since it is really late as I'm writing this. I'm ready for summer and I'm sure you guys are also.

One of my favorite things about summer is hanging out at the neighborhood festivals, which always start with brunch with friends before wandering around to eat more food (funnel cake!), see great art from local vendors, and do some fun people watching.  Inevitably, because I suffer from extreme FOMO (fear of missing out), I'm usually end up rushing from the festival to dinner, so I need an outfit that transitions easily from day to night.

Since I practically live in my car, I always have several pairs of shoes and a few blazers/scarfs in my car to dress up (or down) an outfit.  I'm so embarrassed when I have to give someone a ride, but the outfit options come in very handy when I'm running late and don't have time to go home (90% of the time...).  It is amazing how throwing on a blazer and a pair of heels (or wedges in this case) can transform an outfit!

What are some of your tricks to transition from day to night?

Oh well, I guess I didn't really keep it short.  Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms and moms-to-be!!
